GRADES 1 - 8
Every young disciple needs to participate in ongoing faith formation and discipleship development. They will learn how to cooperate with the sacramental graces they have received thus far.
FIRST SACRAMENTS PREPARATION
Baptized Catholics are prepared to receive the Sacraments of Penance and Eucharist for the first time in Grade 2. First Reconciliation will be scheduled several months before First Eucharist, which will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2026.
HFC will also work with baptized Catholics who are in higher grades to prepare for these sacraments. Depending upon the individual circumstances, a student twill be part of the First Sacraments Class or the Order of Christian Initation of Children (see below).
CONFIRMATION PREPARATION
Catholics in grades 9 to 12 who have already received the Sacraments of Baptism, Penance, and Eucharist. During previous years, they have received this sacrament at the Cathedral on Pentecost Sunday. The next Pentecost Sunday is May 24, 2026.
ORDER OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF CHILDREN
OCIC is for unbaptized persons from ages 7 to 17. Per universal Church norm, they will be prepared to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist during a liturgy to be scheduled in 2026.
OCIC is for baptized Catholics from ages 7 to 17 who have not received any other sacraments. They will be prepared to receive the Sacrament of Penance at a time to be scheduled in 2026. They will receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist during a liturgy to be scheduled in 2026.
OCIC is also for ages 7 to 17 who were baptized in another Christian community but want to follow the Lord Jesus as a Catholic Christian. They will be prepared to receive the Sacrament of Penance, Confirmation, and Eucharist. during a liturgy to be scheduled in 2026.
