Christ is Risen!

On Easter Sunday, I preached about how the Risen Lord raises our expectations about what He can accomplish within us with our cooperation. Through Holy Baptism, God's life and love are poured into our lives by the Holy Spirit. The same Spirit which raised Jesus from the dead resides within us (cf. Romans 8:11)! A video and audio of my Easter Sunday homily is here.

Holy Baptism closely identifies the baptized with the Lord Jesus and how He is saving us. Jesus died for our sins. We die to sin and to the invitation to sin. Jesus rises from the dead to the glory of God the Father. We rise to glorify God in our thoughts, words, and actions (cf. Romans 6:3-11).

The fifty days of the Easter season began on Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord. It ends on the Solemnity of Pentecost.

Our parish 2021 theme is, “Arise: Experiencing Life in Christ.” This is the subject of my homily series. We can cooperate with the Lord by using the divine gifts of faith, hope, and love that we are receiving through Holy Baptism. The gift of Holy Baptism is an ongoing reality for the Christian, not merely a past event.
